Why do we need to do catalyst wetting and exothermic during catalyst loading?

In hydroprocessing units, catalyst wetting is used to establish uniform flow of feed in the catalyst bed as well as uniform coverage of feed over all the catalyst prior to in-situ sulfidation. Many catalysts exhibit a wetting exotherm due to heat of adsorption which passes through the catalyst system during this step.
Using Eurecat's Totsucat pre-activated catalyst eliminates the need for in-situ sulfidation, including the catalyst wetting step.
