There have been some reported incidents of phosphorous fouling in hydroprocessing units downstream of the additive injection. If you are concerned about that then you will want to stick with a sulfur based inhibitor. The other constraint to consider is whether the inhibitor will be effective at all. The inhibitor must be physically carried to the metal being protected by a liquid phase. Therefore, protecting the underside of trays and the tower wall in the vapor space is not practical with inhibitor. Naphthenic acids can still condense and cause corrosion in these areas though because the inhibitor does not make to these areas but corrosive acids do.
